Hashtag ToolTips (“the extension”) is made by Chaitanya Arora. It shows how many followers a LinkedIn hashtag has. It is an independent project and is not affiliated with or endorsed by LinkedIn.
What the extension does with your data
- When you hover over a hashtag, click “Get Followers” in the post composer, or search in the extension’s popup, the extension reads the hashtag text it needs. For “Get Followers” it reads the hashtags in your draft post, only on your device.
- To get the count, it sends the hashtag name to LinkedIn’s servers, using your own logged-in LinkedIn session (it reads the session value from your browser’s LinkedIn cookie to authenticate that request, the way the LinkedIn website does). The cookie value is not stored and is sent only to linkedin.com.
- It stores each hashtag’s follower count in your browser for 7 days so repeated lookups are faster. This cache contains no personal information.
What the extension does not do
- It does not send any data to the developer or to any third party other than LinkedIn.
- It has no analytics, tracking, advertising, or user accounts.
- It does not sell or share your data, and does not use it for anything other than showing follower counts.
Links
The popup contains links to the Chrome Web Store, a feedback form, and the developer’s website. They open only when you click them, and those sites have their own privacy practices.
Your choices
Uninstalling the extension removes everything it stored. You can also clear its storage at any time from Chrome’s extension settings.
Chrome Web Store User Data Policy
The use of information received from Chrome APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
